Using tags is an important part of overall SEO strategy.  Google and other search engines use tags to identify relevant keywords and ultimately give  users the most accurate results for their search.  The tags are more the equivalent of meta “keywords” in an html site.

Using tags is simple in WordPress and most Web 2.0 properties.  Simply look for the “tags” box on the right side of the admin panel in the post or page.  You can simply add the keywords that you are targeting separated by a comma.  You can use keyword phrases too.  Don’t forget to save the post/page by clicking the “submit” button.

Using tags for SEO is generally more important than using categories (which are also important, but more for user convenience).  Just remember to use keywords that you actually used in your post or page (you can add some relevant non-used keywords too, but be careful not to appear like spam. 

Just don’t forget to add a comma between each keyword or keyword phrase.
